need help
Hello,
I am interested in the Stallion theme, however, I think I need help. Where can i find someone to help me put this all together? Also, is the Stallion theme only for wordpress.org or can you also use it for wordpress.com blogs? Thank you. Joey Kantor Las Vegas, Nevada
Stallion SEO Theme Ease of Use
Stallion is designed for all self hosted WordPress blog users (can’t be used at wordpress.com) and is very easy to use considering what you can achieve with a WordPress blog running Stallion.
If you have self hosted WordPress up and running already installing Stallion is no harder than any other premium theme. Install Stallion like you would any theme, copy and paste an activation code (provided during the order process) on the main Stallion options page and you are good to go.
As there are 13 options pages with hundreds of options it does take time to learn what Stallion can achieve (there are tutorials on this site), but that’s Stallion advanced use and it’s easy to learn over time. If you can read and understand what an option does and click a mouse there’s no reason why a complete newbie can’t use Stallion to create sites exactly the same as I do.
For example in the next Stallion update I’ve added a Privacy Policy Static Page Template. In WordPress when you create a Static Page (like an About Page) you can select a different template (in the next Stallion update there’s 15 Stallion Page templates, Stallion is also special when it comes to Page Templates as they can also be used on Blog Posts as well – don’t know of any other theme that has this feature). So if you want a Privacy Policy page to meet AdSense T&Cs next Stallion update makes it easy, create a Page, call it Privacy Policy or similar, select the Privacy Policy Page Template and you’ll have a privacy policy page without having to type anything else.
That’s a great feature by itself, it gets better. On the main Stallion options page there’s 3 options related to the Privacy Page. Hide or show a link to a Privacy Page in the footer area, the URL to the privacy page and the anchor text of the link to the privacy page.
The Privacy Policy Page Template has code to generate a URL for the site the Privacy Policy is for, it has two options. It can use the URL to the privacy page that a user can add to the Stallion options page or use the HTTP Referer URL (which to use is set on the Stallion options page as part of the show/hide footer link option).
The HTTP Referer URL is the URL the visitor came from, so if I clicked a link from domain1.com/page-i-am-on.html that went to domain2.com/privacy-policy.html the HTTP Referer URL is domain1.com/page-i-am-on.html.
This means using Stallion you can create one Privacy Policy page (at domain2.com/privacy-policy.html) for all your websites and use Stallion to have a footer link to that page from all your sites. I have around 90 WordPress blogs, I down’t want to create 90 Privacy Policy pages, so I’ll create one and link to it, when a visitor clicks the footer link to the privacy policy page it reads
This sounds really complicated right? To code it is quite complicated, but to use it’s easy, click the image below to see the screenshot of the new settings.
That’s about as complicated as it gets for the vast majority of options. There’s a lot of very advanced WordPress techniques built into Stallion, but I’ve made it as easy as possible to use them. When trying to push limits some features do take more effort, but most features built into Stallion are usable by newbies. Remember I use Stallion on around 90 domains to make money online, when I need a new feature I add it to Stallion and make it as easy as possible to use without degrading it’s impact. When a customer runs into a problem, I see an opportunity to add a new set of features.
I tend to use a similar setup on all my sites, so to make it easier I’ve added a set of what I call SEO Defaults for my and customers use, near the bottom of the main Stallion options page is a tick box for using those defaults: tick a box, click a save button and a site very similar to this one. Edit a handful of settings and you have a unique website.
So two clicks of the mouse and you can have a site not much different to the one you are on now.
All that being said, I know Mark who regularly comments here http://www.stallion-theme.com/stallion-wordpress-theme-feature-requests?cid=15593 and has been using Stallion before it was called Stallion
is offering a Stallion setup service, can pass your email address to Mark if you want?

Stallion SEO Theme 7.1 Update
Stallion version 7.1 is almost ready, just started the testing process on live sites to iron out any issues that don’t present themselves on a localhost install, assuming no problems (or they are easily fixed) just a matter of creating a Stallion 7.1 zip file so should be days away from release
Stallion 7.1 is another big feature update, full child theme support (will be releasing an example child theme soon) is the most important new feature.
There’s many other new features including the ability to set a layout, colour scheme, header image sets and if ads should be shown on every post and page (simple case of editing a post or page and select a layout etc… for that page/post).
Stallion is of course installed on this site and the main setup is
Right single 310px sidebar, Stallion Delicate Colour Scheme, a custom header image, 2001 headers disabled and no ads are enabled (AdSense, Chitika and Clickbank is off).
On the page you are on now I have Right single 410px sidebar, Stallion Black Colour Scheme, the Orange Flower header image since 2001 header images and ads are disabled on this site the other two options have no impact.
Look around the site and when I’ve had the time to edit more posts many more will use different layouts, colours, images etc… pretty cool feature.

Stallion 7.1 Update Example Stallion Child Theme Released
Stallion 7.1 update is live and should be available to update under your WordPress Dashboards. Will be writing a post about this on the mailing list tomorrow.
Also uploaded a free example Stallion Child Theme, the example child theme adds no new colours etc… just a framework for developers and those who customize their installs with custom images etc… I’ll be installing a child theme on all my WordPress sites so the Timthumb.php cache folder is located within the child theme folder not /stallion-seo-theme/, by doing this I won’t have to set the write permission via FTP every time I run the theme updater (on many sites have to login using FTP after the update and change permissions AGAIN).
Stallion Child Themes
Stallion 7.1 is running on this site now, already started to use the new override layout, colour scheme settings which is why this post has the 410px right sidebar layout and the Stallion Black colour scheme and the Orange Flower header image.

Add Pinterest Button to WordPress Theme
Any recommendations for including a Pinterest “Pin it” button next to FB, TW, SU, Google buttons?
Not sure if Pinterest is hot where you are over there… but here it is taking on social networking like wildfire.
Adding a Pinterest Social Media Button
Adding a social media button where the current buttons reside would require editing the file
/stallion-seo-theme/plugins/social-network.php
I’m not familiar with Pinterest, so no idea what their button code is.
If you look in the file above you’ll find code like
<?php if(st_stumbleb()=='1'){ ?><div class="floatleft"><su:badge layout="1" location="<?php the_permalink(); ?>"></su:badge></div>
<?php } ?>
The first and last line of the above code is checking if a Stallion options should load the code, since there won’t be Pinterest on/off option it’s not needed.
So what you’ve want is the middle bit:
<div class="floatleft">PUT THE PINTEREST CODE HERE</div>If you added this below the Stunbleupon code so it looked like this:
<?php if(st_stumbleb()=='1'){ ?><div class="floatleft"><su:badge layout="1" location="<?php the_permalink(); ?>"></su:badge></div>
<?php } ?>
<div class="floatleft">PUT THE PINTEREST CODE HERE</div>
The Pinterest button should load after Stubleupon (if you have it on).
This assumes the Pinterest button code is a single copy and paste bit of code (most buttons are).
If you want to try this I suggest installing a Stallion child Theme first, you can use the Free Example Child Theme from Stallion Child Theme Info. You’d activate a child theme and copy the /stallion-seo-theme/plugins/social-network.php file to your Child theme folder and edit it there. This would have the same affect as editing the file at /stallion-seo-theme/plugins/social-network.php but when Stallion updates you won’t loose your edits.
An alternative for some types of button code would be to try adding the button code to a Text Widget added to the “Content Ad widget” area under Appearance widgets and under Stallion Layout setting “Content Widget Area Alignment” to Float left or right. Whether this works depends on the button code, Google Plus code works this way, but adding the StubleUpon code I’m using wouldn’t work because it includes PHP. Worth a try before messing with editing files.
You could also look for a plugin.
When I get the time I’ll see if it’s worth adding to Stallion. My wife knows what it is
she says it’s used a lot with images on craft type sites.

Hi Dave
My Clickbank ads have disappeared. They’re turned on and the widget is in place but no ads. Don’t know what I’ve done, I did have them turned off for a while and when I turned them back on I first got the Google error in their place, but now I don’t get anything.
At the Clickbank end all I have done is change my password.
I realize it will probably be something stupid but please bare with me this is my first site

Clickbank Hopad Builder Disabled
The Clickbank Hopad Builder code will be completely disabled (by Clickbank) this month (September 2012), so the Stallion Clickbank ads will no longer function correctly.
In the next Stallion update I’ll be completely removing Clickbank ads from the theme, thinking about adding Amazon as a replacement.
I’m taking some time off developing Stallion (probably until after Christmas, not sure yet been neglecting my sites and need to spend sometime developing my sites), in the meantime disable Clickbank on your sites. Once Clickbank is disabled in Stallion it has no impact on a site.

Thanks for the info and the quick response,
Seems I was too quick to blame myself, I should have enquired earlier instead of spending half a day trying to figure out what I’d done wrong.
Good luck with your sites and looking forward to the update

SEO Adsense mobile ready WP plugin or theme
There are a few WP plugins out there that make websites Mobile ready. However, I question if they are SEO friendly, even JetPack the WordPress recommended plugin puts a WordPress link at the bottom of the Mobile page, further, I have not seen Adsense displayed.
What do you recommend if we all want to be ready for the next big wave, that is Mobile and Tablet site ready? If we want to monetizes? Could it be an update for your theme or is there a plugin that works SEO wise with Adsense.
I have tested Stallion on emulators and of course it displays but as a normal site, but I did not see any ads. The ideal would be mobile ready plus Adsense.

Mobile version - blog theme & SEO
I’ve been off this message board for many months now, but I thought I’d chime in on this topic. Mobile readiness is something I’ve been wondering about too. I had not paid much attention to treating mobile visitors any differently. However I recently checked via analytics how many of my monthly visits are from mobile devices. I was surprised to find that it was tens of thousands of visits, roughly 1/3 of my total visits (I had suspected it might be in the 10-15% range…). It seems this is the wave of things to come…even for traffic to my decidedly non-techie site.
One thing I notice in my analytics stats is that the mobile visitors to my site have a significantly lower pageview average and time on site, and a significantly higher bounce rate.
I do not know if this reflects the type of visitor (ie, mobile users perhaps being more impatient), or the experience they are having. The next question is whether the experience would be improved and thus result in higher on-site time if I had a mobile version of my site. I have heard anecdotally from a few visitors that they don’t mind accessing my site via the traditional view on their mobile devices. Still, I wonder if it would be more conducive to user experience to have a mobile version and thus improve these metrics (I suspect yes).
I also am not sure what effect this would have on ad performance. I recently received correspondence from the Big G encouraging designing a mobile-ready site, along with suggested ad placements. So that’s another unknown.
I too have seen mobile plug-ins available for WordPress but have hesitated to use them. The main reason is that I don’t want to lose the great SEO that Stallion offers over 1/3 of my traffic (which I am assuming is what would happen, as these plugins seem to work by serving a totally different theme–though perhaps I am wrong on the SEO impact–not sure how a search engine “reads” a site and serves mobile results–based on the “base version” of the site or the mobile version, if that makes sense).
Kind of a rambling message covering a lot of bases, but I guess it’s my way of asking what you think about mobile Dave, and whether any plug-in you know of would suffice, or if we’d need something more integrated with the Stallion architecture.
I’m really satisfied with the theme, but just trying to think ahead a bit (although it seems my thinking ahead is not really that much “ahead”, with mobile seeming to have arrived in a pretty big way already
).
Anyway, hope you are doing well, and thanks for all your hard work.

And you’ll see there’s a lot of causes of this error, had one other customer with this issue:

Looks like it was a max upload file size issue (many hosts have max upload size at around 2MB, Stallion needs around 10MB) which would normally give a different error. Might be another cause for you, for a quick fix try installing using FTP.

Using RSS Multi Importer with Stallion
Hi David,
I wonder if it’s possible to use RSS Multi Importer plugin for WordPress (http://www.allenweiss.com/wp_plugin/)?
I’m trying to implement it to create something like this:
http://coffee.alltop.com/
Do you know if I’d need to modify stallion to create this arrangement (kind of grouping feeds by source ~ 5 posts per source, and arranged in columns).
My initial question is… if I have to divide the main area of Stallion in three columns and then “fit” the plugin output into each column?
Thanks

MegaMenu
Hi David,
is there a possibility to use a mega menu plugin? Or would you like to put it on your to do list for next update?
WordPress Mega Menu Plugin
Not familiar with the WordPress Mega Menu Plugin, took a quick look at the demo site and looks heavy on Jquery and the URL links within the menu aren’t SEO friendly so I wouldn’t add it to Stallion.
Not tested it so don’t know how it would interact with Stallion.
