WordPress Theme Fatal Error Notice
David,
I just encountered this fatal error message below (I’m using Stallion 7.0) and I tried to find update.php but could only find ttk_updates.php? I’m not sure how to fix this… can you please help? Thanks-Randy

Updating a WordPress Theme Using FTP
David,
I tried FTPing both 7.1 (did not cure problem) and then back to 7.0 to see if that might fix the problem… it did not. I’m using bluehost as my hosting service for this website and I contacted them to see if they might know something and have not heard back as of yet.
One thing bluehost did do yesterday was update my php version to 5.3 and install IonCube to my account. Don’t know if this means anything but I thought you should know.
Thanks,
Randy

Stallion SEO Theme 7.1.1 Update
Did you use the latest Stallion 7.1.1 Update or 7.1?
If you updated to Stallion 7.1 there would still be an update available and the error would still occur.
As I understand it the error only occurs when an update is available, update Stallion and the code doesn’t run. So updating from 7.0 to 7.1 when 7.1.1 is the latest version won’t help, updating to 7.1.1 should resolve the issue. If you were definitely running Stallion 7.1.1 and still got the error let me know as others have given the indication updating removes the error.
I don’t know the exact cause of this bug, it’s in code I’m using to hook into the WordPress repository theme update system (premium themes don’t have an auto update feature by default) and I don’t know why this code is failing for a small number of sites. I can’t replicate it, so can’t test code changes to fix it.
It’s easy to disable the auto update feature, edit the file
/stallion-seo-theme/functionsplus.php
Find and delete this code:
<?php if (file_exists(STYLESHEETPATH . '/plugins/update.php')) {include_once (STYLESHEETPATH . "/plugins/update.php"); } else {include_once (get_template_directory() . "/plugins/update.php"); } ?><?php $example_update_checker = new ThemeUpdateChecker('stallion-seo-theme','http://www.stallion-theme.com/updates/themes/stallion-seo-theme/info.json'); ?>
This will completely disable the auto update code, all updates will have to be via FTP.
Remember when you update Stallion next this code will be readded to Stallion.
I’ll see if I can add a disable auto updates on one of the Stallion option pages if I can’t find a fix before the next Stallion update.

Download Stallion Theme 7.1.1 Update
David,
I used 7.1 and I will try 7.1.1, but where do I download it? WP usually updates Stallion, but I can’t even get to the theme because of the error message.
Thanks,
Randy
Stallion Theme Update Mailing List
The latest Stallion zip file can always be found at the Stallion Theme Update Mailing List http://archive.aweber.com/stalliontheme (anyone can download it).
The way to make the code changes in the other comment would be edit the file on your computer and upload via FTP. Edit the one file offline, upload and the error will be gone. Now I know the issue was because you used Stallion 7.1 not Stallion 7.1.1 there’s no reason to edit a file, just update the latest files.
When I do the next update (Stallion 7.2) you might get this error again if I haven’t found the cause. The solution would be upgrade using the Stallion 7.2 zip file and uploading via FTP. I don’t think I’ll find a solution to this in the short term, so will add a way to disable the code. When that feature is enabled those who have this issue should turn the auto update off and make sure they are on the mailing list for the update notifications.

Stallion 7.1.1
David,
Just wanted to let you know that the Stallion 7.1.1 theme straightened out all the problems that I was having. However, I’m receiving a few buttons that I’ve never seen before. Is this comment below related to Stallion or WordPress?
Make sure to export the media library and upload the wp-includes, theme files, custom files, files to the CDN to ensure proper operation.
Thanks,
Randy

Glad to hear Stallion 7.1.1 fixed the issues.
No those messages are not part of Stallion, I’d guess a caching plugin.

Recommended WordPress Plugins
I’m almost through with my first stallion site and I’ve so far managed to stay away from additonal plugins thanks to your excellent theme – it’s got all that’s really needed. Almost
So there are three functions I still need to implement in my site:
Google XML Sitemaps
wordpress [dot] org/extend/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/
Newsletter
???
I need to collect emails to make special announcements and maybe special offers.
Thanks

WordPress SEO Plugins
Only have experience of plugins I’ve used and don’t use those plugins, these are plugins I use:
WordPress SEO Plugins some of it’s out of date, for example since adding the WordPress SEO Posts widget to Stallion no longer need the Most Popular Posts WordPress Plugin, the Stallion version is better. There’s a newer version of Contextual Related Posts SEO Version just for Stallion at the next link below.
WordPress SEO Plugins work in progress.

Stallion WordPress blog installed in subdirectory or subdomain
That is another very interesting question for me:
Stallion WordPress blog installed in subdirectory or subdomain
I would like to install an additional blog to my Joomla site in a subdirectory like:
www.example.com/blog | or | blog.example.com
What are the SEO implication thereof?
How will Stallion influence the overall performance?
Will I treat Stallion as a separate “SEO entity”?
And could you please add some advise on the endless discussion about the preferred domain name:
Which is better?
http://www.example.com | or | http://example.com
Does it even matter anymore? My question here is: If you are asked to make a choice, why doesn’t Google treat both possibilities as equals or “synonymous”?
Thanks a lot!

Title is not dark enough
Hi David,
I am bought the child theme for business and would like the Title to show in Bold how do I handle this. I have tried several different colors and can not seem to have the title show up well.
Thanks, Rebecca
Modifying Stallion Business Child Theme CSS
Problem is you’ve selected a white background header image which doesn’t work very well with the dark background business colour scheme. It’s a nice a header image as well, I use it with the built in lighter Stallion colour schemes.
Currently there’s no option to change font colours via an easy to use options page (something I want to add in a future update), there is a work around (see later).
Easiest solution is choose a different header image with a darker background.
Alternatively edit the file
/stallion-child-business/colors/style-business-st.css
.h1disc h1 a:link, .h1disc h1 a:visited, .h1disc span a:link, .h1disc span a:visited {text-decoration: none;
color: #eee;
}
.h1disc h1 a:hover, .h1disc h1 a:active, .h1disc span a:hover, .h1disc span a:active {
text-decoration: none;
color: #FFA500;
}
Change the two color: codes (this bit #eee) to whatever colours you want (loads of websites online with websafe color codes, #000000 is black for example), first one is non-hoverover and the second is hoverover.
If you don’t want to edit files you can use this code
<style type="text/css">.h1disc h1 a:link, .h1disc h1 a:visited, .h1disc span a:link, .h1disc span a:visited {color: #eee;
}
.h1disc h1 a:hover, .h1disc h1 a:active, .h1disc span a:hover, .h1disc span a:active {
color: #FFA500;
}</style>
on the “Stallion All In One SEO” Options page (under the Stallion menu when under Stallion >> SEO Advanced options page “Stallion All in One SEO ON” is set.
Paste the code in the
“Additional Sitewide Headers”
Box and change the color codes to the colours you want.
The above technique can be used to override pretty much anything you find in the /stallion-child-business/colors/style-business-st.css file, you basically copy the CSS styles you want to change and add the bits you want to change into the sitewide headers box between the style code. Above I only added the color code since we weren’t trying to change the text-decoration (which is set to none, if you wanted underlined you would add text-decoration: underline;).

Stallion RSS Feed Widget Question
David,
I think in the Talion series the RSS Feed Widget would set-up the feeds automatically (can’t remember) but now using the Stallion RSS Feed Widget seems like I’ve done something incorrectly. When I click on the feed buttons it automatically goes to my c: directory trying to save a file named “feed” instead of going to the feed pages. I hope I’ve explained this correctly? Do you have any idea what I’ve done wrong?
Thanks,
Randy

WordPress RSS Feeds
Stallion uses WordPress core RSS feed features, so nothing special about Stallion regarding feeds that could break because of Stallion.
When I try to load your feed in Firefox I see
The page isn’t redirecting properly
So you’ve broken something, no idea what.
Try disabling any plugins that are new.

Upgrade
I have the Stallion Seo Ad theme 6.01 and I wanted to upgrade my wordpress dashboard does not show upgrade feature.
Also I tried to add the stallion seo them 7.1.1 and durning the upload it said file is too big …
Please help
Joe
Stallion SEO Theme Update
Stallion 6.01 didn’t have the built in Stallion updater.
You can’t use the WordPress theme installer to update a theme, when a theme already exists WordPress throws out an error though not the too big error.
I think I know what’s happening.
Your hosting account has the maximum file upload size set too low, many hosts have it set to 2MBs, you need 10MBs to install Stallion that way. Since the upload size is too low when you try to install any large theme or plugin you’ll get the file too big error.
If your hosting did have a max file upload size big enough you wouldn’t get the file size error, instead you’d get the folder exists error instead since /stallion-seo-theme/ folder already exists.
Solution is use FTP to upload the extracted Stallion theme over the current /wp-content/themes/stallion-seo-theme/
When up to date future updates will be able to use the automatic updater.

Stallion RSS Feeds Widgets - v7.1.1
David,
I’m not sure if this is a Stallion problem or not, but when I’m using the widgets section and add or subtract a widget, it will take between 3-4 minutes to load the widget section. In other words, the right hand side of the screen is empty/blank for the loading period I’ve stated above. Most of this started when the Stallion RSS Feeds Widget was working correctly, then and I’m not sure what happened, when clicked it would go to a bookmark page. I’ve sent you this problem before and you did not know what was wrong. However, I’ve played with this a lot and now when you click the RSS Feed it goes to index of/feed page. Could my version of Stallion 7.1.1 be corrupted or do you have any idea why this is happening? It used to go to a RSS page that displayed the articles.
Thanks,
Randy

Broken WordPress RSS Feeds
Stallion makes no changes to the default WordPress RSS feeds so highly unlikely to be a Stallion problem. Your feeds are no longer default looking, so not a clue what is wrong. Most times someone reports feed issues it’s a plugin problem, can be as simple as having blank lines at the bottom of a plugin file. PHP doesn’t like blank lines and it can mess up RSS Feeds, though usually viewing source of the home page will show blank lines at the very top, basically the blank lines in the PHP plugin (or theme) files are replicated at the top. Having blank lines at the top of a feed seems to mess them up (no idea why).
The widgets issue is also highly unlikely to be Stallion, sounds like a server or resource problem. Autoblogs are resource intensive and if you are running a lot of plugins or you have a cheap server or poorly configured server they can really slow down. I had to replace two new dedicated servers (one after the other) because I believe they were misconfigured by the server company, basically I was seeing CPU usage WAY above what was normal and the server was grinding to a halt!!! These were not cheap dedicated servers, the companies best servers, but they were using a new configuration and I guess they got it wrong. Had to move to another company because they couldn’t fix it (they blamed me, but the new servers from another place no problems), so when something goes slow/wrong can be something completely out of your control. All you can do is rule out problems starting with plugins, can also switch themes see if it helps.
The latest stallion zip file can be downloaded again, unzip it and use FTP to upload over your online Stallion folder, this will replace all the files IF something was corrupt (unlikely) this would fix it.

How-to create a page with tables and cells in Stallion
Hi,
David, is it possible to create a page with tables and cells in Stallion? which page template should be the best to do it? Could you please give me some hints?
Thanks
Héctor
Hi David,
I found out how to create the table. I’m having some challenge…
how could I “force” -for only a specific page- this for example: http://blogcanadiense.com/prueba/
that the hyperlinks are created without underline?
Thanks
Héctor
css basics needed
@Héctor,
you need some basic css knowledge or someone you trust to do the required css styling.
It is very simple – there are basically two ways to achieve your goal. Let me know if you want my assistance.
Cheers,
delta
Override Stallion CSS Styles
You could override CSS styles in a number of ways.
An easy one is add this near the top of the Page template you created.
<style type="text/css">.post-content a:link, .post-content a:visited {
text-decoration: none;
}
.post-content a:hover, .post-content a:active {
text-decoration: none;
}
</style>
I’m assuming you made a brand new Page template or used a Page template you aren’t using for anything else. If not you make a new Page template by copying one of the files starting page-*.php like page-example.php (that’s there for making new templates based on the original Page.php format) and renamed it something like page-tables.php and edited the top line of the file (Template Name: Example Default) to change the template name (Template Name: Tables) so you can select it when creating Posts and Pages.
If you used the Example Page Template file as your starting point add it below the line
<?php get_header(); ?>That should do it.
You could also add the new CSS rules as a Text Widget and use the Stallion Layout options >> Widget Display ON which adds new options to your Widgets.
With Widget Display ON you have the option to show and hide specific widgets on single Posts/Pages/Categories etc… All you’d do is add a new text widget with the CSS code, and set that widget to only show on the Posts/Pages you want it on. It’s a quick way to override CSS formatting on a page by page basis.
There’s other ways to achieve this, those are the easiest.
David

Thanks a lot, David. I’m checking the options that you explained above.
Héctor
WOW
using the widget option worked perfectly!
You can see it at

yet, another great little known feature of Stallion
Thanks again
