upload message
Hi David,
Trying to upload the theme and got this message:
The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive in php.ini.
I was wondering if I could get some advice?
Thanks
PHP upload_max_filesize directive
The upload error message means your hosting account/server has it’s maximum file size set to a smaller size than the Stallion zip file, Stallion is ~9MBs, so below 10MBs basically : many hosts set it really low at 2MBs, why I don’t know, must result in loads of support requests, I wonder if it’s left over from when HD space was at a premium?
Few solutions.
Use FTP to upload the unzipped Stallion theme.
Get your host to increase upload_max_filesize to 16MBs or more (16M will give you plenty of wiggle room for other stuff you might upload).
Edit your php.ini file and add or edit
upload_max_filesize = 16MYou might have a php.ini file in the root of your website.
Not tried this but apparently you can add this to your root .htaccess file as well format:
php_value upload_max_filesize 16MIf this .htaccess change results in a 500 Internal server error it apparently means you aren’t allowed to do this on your server.
Easiest solution is FTP.

Headings in Stallion
Hi, Dave, I am your old customer and have been using Stallion since it was Talian
.
I want to ask your seo comments as to my observation.
Stallion is a perfect theme but it can’t make everything for you. I have just noticed that you tend to have only one h1 heading on any page, despite the h2 and h3 looks almost similar visually.
Earlier I made several H1 for my blog post. But now, after having noticed your way, I decided to leave just only one h1 per page. Is it seo wise?
SEO WordPress Theme Support
Search Engine Optimization of Headers, H1, H2, H3...
There’s no hard rules on the exact number and ratio of headers to use because the larger an article more scope for header usage, you wouldn’t add 10 different headers (various H*s) to a 250 word post for example, but 10 headers for a large 3,000 word article might work. Everey page is different basically.
Through SEO research I work under these understandings and loose rules.
There will be a finite amount of SEO benefit available from any SEO important part of a page/code and this includes headers which can sometimes mean more is less.
It’s believed H1 is more important than H2 and so on.
I’ll use this site as examples.
Stallion covers the H1 automatically because it’s so important.
On the home page and unimportant dated archives the name of the site is within a H1 header “Stallion WordPress SEO Theme”.
On categories, tags and search results the name of the category, tag or search phrase is within the H1 header.
On posts and pages the title of the post/page is within the H1 header, so this post the H1 is “Stallion SEO WordPress Theme Support”.
Since I’m writing a comment and with the Stallion theme comments can generate their own pages the comment page will have a H1 that includes the title of the comment (in this case “Search Engine Optimization of Headers, H1, H2, H3…”) and some of the comments text.
So H1 wise Stallion covers H1 needs as long as you keep SEO in mind when naming your site, categories, tags, posts and pages.
If you decide to add more H1 headers to posts/pages assume the words within all the H1 headers shares the H1 benefit, basically whatever you add to your manually added H1s is added the Stallion H1. Take this page with title “Stallion SEO WordPress Theme Support” that’s 5 keywords, meaning the H1 benefit is shared over those 5 keywords, each receive one fifth the H1 SEO benefit. If I added more H1 headers say “Stallion Support” and “Stallion SEO Help” we now have 10 keywords within H1 headers.
I’ve not been able to conclusively test how the benefit is shared when a keywords is repeated, in the above 3 H1 headers there’s 10 keywords, but only 6 are unique keywords. There’s the argument Google takes into account what a user sees, so in this case a user sees 10 keywords within H1 headers and so the benefit should be shared in tenths and since the keywords Stallion is used 3 times it should gain three tenths of the H1 SEO benefit. I don’t know for sure that this is how it works, but it is how Google works. If it works the other way each word gains 1/6th of the SEO benefit.
On the home page and categories, tags etc… the H2 includes the title of the posts and pages linked to. If your archives have 10 posts you’ll have 10 sets of H2s. Hmm, that just gave me a good idea for improved SEO on archives, currently there’s no H3 and H4 usage on archive pages, would makes sense to have something like say two H2s, four H3s, four H4s and more than 10 posts make them H5s. I’ll have to code that in for the next update.
Stallion doesn’t use H2s automatically on posts and pages, they are left for the user to generate them manually so you can add more related key phrases. Reason for this is there’s a limited number of useful phrases to grab from a post automatically, it’s reasonable to assume your title is going to be SEO’d but not reasonable to assume the first 5 words of a post say is keywords.
On posts and pages depending on the setup and use of supported plugins there’s a splattering on H3s and H4s repeating the title of the post to reinforce the keywords within the title. For example the comment areas and the related posts plugins I’ve SEO’d use H3 and H4 headers.
All Stallion header use will use the posts/page title so it adds to the SEO of the page as long as your posts/pages titles are built with SEO in mind. If you call your posts “What I did on Saturday” when it’s about how you rebuilt a PC from scratch don’t expect to rank well for SERPs like “How to Rebuild a PC in 24 Hours”.
Generally speaking header usage should be something like:
One H1, one or two H2s, whatever works for H3+
You’ll note on this page there’s the title of the post in the Stallion H1, Stallion comment H3, Stallion comment H4 and the related articles plugin H3 with a manually added H2 with content “Stallion Theme Tutorials and Features”. Most of my pages are built like this if I remember to add the H2 (I get lazy
).
As I said above assume the benefit is shared over the number of words used, so it doesn’t matter if you have one H1 header with 10 keywords or ten H1 headers with one keyword each, same for H2, H3…

Hi, David
I installed plugins as you said in your tutorials. I want to display Panda on the related articles but I can’t, so where can I check it?
another is that I don’t want to display (powered by Stallion WordPress SEO Theme) at the footer, where can I hide it?
Thank you,

Stallion Related Posts WordPress SEO Plugin
The blinking panda image is part of the “Contextual Related Posts SEO Version plugin” from my other site.
I’m working on an updated list of SEO plugins at WordPress SEO Plugins which is added primarily for Stallion theme users.
For example I just uploaded an updated version of the Contextual Related Posts SEO Version plugin with Stallion relevant improvements which I’ve called
Stallion Related Posts WordPress SEO Plugin
This is a better version of the “Contextual Related Posts SEO Version plugin” specifically for Stallion users. If you run Stallion and the “Contextual Related Posts SEO Version plugin” disable that plugin and install the “Stallion Related Posts WordPress SEO Plugin”.
To remove the powered by affiliate link go to your Stallion Clickbank Options page and turn the link off near the bottom.

Hi, David
Thank you for your great help. What is the difference between Stallion related post and contextual related post. I like the panda image, so is it possible if I use it for my blog.
Oh, How can I use color for my text? for example, it always appears black for my text but I want to highlight with blue or something but I don’t know where to edit it.
First I think it could edit in post when I wrote but there is no tool to edit the color of text. Do you know it?
One more is that I want to have the running headline, which plugin should I use? for example, there is a good news that I want to let it run below the header of my blog but I don’t know which plugin to set, so I hope that you can tell me.
Thank you so much,
Your theme is now getting interested more in many bloggers in Cambodia so I think that I would invite them to buy from you.

Failed WordPress Theme FTP Installation
Looks like a failed upload or a corrupt zip file since that error suggests at least one file is missing online.
Do you see the missing file
/stallion-seo-themes/ttk_functions.php
On your computer (offline)?
If that file is on your computer and you’ve used the extracted zip file to install on other domains with no problem that would point to failed FTP upload (I’ve had Filezilla completely mess up an FTP upload, put parts of an upload in the wrong folder online!) in which case I would delete (via FTP) the online folder
/wp-content/themes/stallion-seo-themes/
and try FTP again.
BTW By deleting the above folder this will force WordPress to activate the default TwentyEleven theme, so if you ever find yourself locked out of the Dashboard by a broken theme or plugin deleting the problem theme/plugins folder deactivates the theme/plugin giving you Dashboard access etc… Don’t forget you’ll need the TwentyEleven theme installed, so if you delete the TwentyEleven theme on your installs (I used to) you won’t have the backup theme.
If this is your first Stallion installation with that zip file download again from http://www.stallion-theme.com/updates/themes/stallion-seo-theme/stallion-theme-6.2.zip to rule out a corrupt zip file and try again. When you extract the zip file keep a look out for corrupt file error messages.
If a newly downloaded zip file/FTP upload generates the same error there’s a chance your server is running security software that doesn’t like obsfucated PHP code and might be treating files with obsfucated code as potentially damaging code and deletes the files! So far had one customer with this problem, basically some hosts run security scripts that look for obsfucated code because hackers tend to hide their code by obsfucating it, great idea to assume all obsfucated code is a security risk IF developers didn’t use obsfucated code as well
Stallion has some of the Stallion ID activation code obsfucated to slow down those who null themes (remove the activation system) and give them away for free. Probably not the issue, but to confirm this you’d upload Stallion as before and check what was uploaded into /wp-content/themes/stallion-seo-themes/ if files like ttk_functions.php are missing you know the problem.
LMK how you get on, good to rule out potential Stallion bugs.

Problems with transaction ID
Hi David,
I’ve been using Talian/Stallion for more than a year now and all of the sudden the theme has disabled itself, claiming that I haven’t registered my transaction ID. Now it seems that it won’t accept it at all.
Could you please contact med at redaksjonen(at)nyhedscompagniet.no and I will forward my PayPal receipt?
Stallion SEO Theme Upgrade
Looked at your site and you have Stallion 6.0 (first Stallion version) installed which had an activation ‘bug’ (made the activation system too harsh) that would completely wipe the Stallion database settings if the wrong ID were entered or some files were edited/deleted/changed (could be your host made a server change which caused the bug to activate).
So it might not be the wrong transaction ID added that’s the problem, could be a files been edited/deleted/changed.
This was fixed in the 6.0.1 update a few days later.
There’s been a couple more updates since with the current version Stallion 6.2 which you can download from http://www.stallion-theme.com/updates/themes/stallion-seo-theme/stallion-theme-6.2.zip (you’ve been missing out on some great feature updates as well).
I checked your email address you used for this comment and it’s not an order email address so couldn’t check it has a valid Stallion ID.
Upgrade Stallion to version 6.2.
If the PayPal transaction ID doesn’t work (there’s two codes associated with a PayPal order and only one will work) enter your PayPal order email address into the Stallion ID reminder form (just below where you add your ID) and the correct ID will be emailed you.
If that doesn’t work drop me an email with the email address you ordered from and I’ll check the ID.
I’ve posted this as a comment and via email.

What I am learning about building a forum
I would like to chirp in my two cents, and say, building a forum is a very ambitious project. I have tried and been trying and maybe going back to just blogging.
The comment features in the Stallion theme are gold. I think search engines reward pages with a lot of comments and Stallion has developed the comment feature even more to replicate the benefits of a forum without the pain. I say this from experience as I am learning this lesson myself. That is any site that requires registration turns people off.
Any site where you can leave a comment, gets engagement. Dave please feel free to continue to develop the comment features any way you think would help.

Hi, David
I am a big problem now with my dashboard language. I think that you may say it is not connected with your stallion theme. Well, if so, I agree. But I think that you more than I do in working on wordpress.
I have added on my new domain on my previous hosting. Before I add my own lanuage into my site: affiliate168.com . But then I added new one site to that hosting and everything work well, even your theme, but what the problem is that I tried to change language on my dashboard from English into my own language (Khmer). It appears known but when I write a post in khmer lanuage, it is unknown.
I read the guideline from wordpress.org of how to change language and I did as what the post wrote. I changed the wp_config.php by adding the word (km_KH) into the define(wplang) and then I upload (km_KH.mo) file into the wp_include with subfolder name (languages). Then it appears in khmer somehow on my dashboard but when I write a post, it is unknown.
I hope you guide me if there is wrong that I did. Or please other people know about it, I please please help !
I just want to use my own lanuage (Khmer) with English on my new addon domain: khmeragro.com but now I could not write even a post in khmer.
Thank your help,

Well, I use a host in a company and then I bought other domains for hosting by using addon domain.
My first domain is run fine with stallion theme and I could write my language. But my addon domains are not posted well with my language although I tried to do exact the same as I did for my first domain.
I think that I would not do wrong for my addon domain. I installed wp as normal from the cpanel and select the addon domain and it runs normal. but when I add a fiel for changing language, it appears in my language normally but when I write a post in my language, it appears ?????. I don’t know why? and if you have experienced with this problem, could you guide me more.

Aweber Form Inheriting Elements
Hi David,
I set up an Aweber opt-in box on my Stallion-powered niche site today and ran into some trouble. It looks like when the opt-in is in the sidebar widget it inherits CSS for the paragraph p tags…
I fixed this problem temporarily by using the full code from Aweber rather than the Javascript snippet. I removed the p tags from around my opt-in box’s text and used br tags instead. This works but the padding is a little off.
I put the code in using a text widget in the sidebar. Is there a way to correct this? I haven’t ever seen an Aweber form inherit CSS before!
SEO WordPress Theme Support
Aweber Optin Form Code
The Aweber code is poorly designed I’m afraid, had this sort of problem myself and the solution is as you’ve found rewriting the code or pick an Aweber form that works with your colour scheme: like I had to do with this site, if you use the “Stallion Colour Switcher” (for testing the Stallion colours) on the right menu you will see my Aweber form text colour changes!
Without seeing the site can’t be sure what the formatting issues are, but guessing it’s related to floats, the Aweber form inherits some of the float css. Easy solution for this one, surround the code with a div with a clear class (Stallion has a class that clears floats called clear).
<div class="clear">Aweber form code
</div>

Not Floats
Hi David,
Thanks for the quick response and the idea to try the clear div. I gave that a go but it’s still breaking.
Here’s my site’s URL: http://www.genderselectioncentral.com/
The opt-in at the top of the sidebar is the one where I modified the code, taking out the p tags and adding in br tags instead.
The opt-in block under the Adsense block in the sidebar is the on that I put the clear tags around. I left it alone so you can take a look at what it’s doing.
If you have any ideas that’s great, otherwise I’ll just keep using the modified one and manually update it if I make a change to the opt-in.

Stallion Theme Connections Reloaded CSS
I see the problem, the Stallion Connections Reloaded CSS file has this CSS:
.sidebar-box ul, .sidebar-box p, .sidebar-box .loginfm, .sidebar-box .wp-polls-ul {float: left;
list-style-type: none;
border: #E1D6C6 1px solid;
margin: 0px;
padding-bottom: 20px;
background: url(images/connections-reloaded/commentsbottom.jpg) #F3F6ED repeat-x bottom;
}
What that CSS does is add the zigzag image (images/connections-reloaded/commentsbottom.jpg) at the bottom of widgets on the sidebars and adds other styling.
The problem is the Aweber form is inheriting “.sidebar-box p” all paragraphs within the sidebars basically.
I had the same problem with nested lists (ul, ul…) within the sidebar widgets so added the CSS below to the Connections Reloaded CSS file:
.sidebar-box ul ul, .sidebar-box ul ul ul, .sidebar-box ul ul ul ul {background: url(images/connections-reloaded/blank.gif) repeat-x bottom;
}
This is an override so we don’t have loads of zigzag images loaded in the middle of widgets with nested lists.
Anyway, possible solutions.
Use one of the other Stallion colour schemes, only the Connections Reloaded theme colour uses that type of image at the bottom if I recall correctly.
Remove all P tags from the Aweber code as you’ve tried.
Edit the style-connections-reloaded.css file and remove all instances of “.sidebar-box p, ” you’d have to do the same for the layout CSS file you use as well style-310r.css. Note this would mean any widgets with paragraphs (there’s a few) will not have the zigzag image at the bottom and loose the other CSS styling within that code. I didn’t see any other widgets using paragraphs on your site so if you understand CSS this might be a solution, though would make updates problematic.
You could try adding some inline CSS to the Aweber form you’d need to replicate all .sidebar-box p code from the two CSS files and override them with the settings like
#af-form-164135139 p {background: url(images/connections-reloaded/blank.gif) repeat-x bottom;}This would be a difficult task.
If there’s other CSS inherited by the paragraphs you might need to add more inline CSS
What you add inline CSS it should override the CSS within the CSS files because it’s loaded last.
I plan to take another look at the CSS code I’m using (not the next update, the one after), to see if I can give all Stallion CSS a unique class or ID so Aweber forms and similar don’t easily inherit the sidebar CSS.
